All, all is theft, all is unceasing and rigorous competition in nature; the desire to make off with the substance of others is the foremost - the most legitimate - passion nature has bred into us and, without doubt, the most agreeable one.

At the moment greed seems to move the world much more than passion. I find that passion is my protection from greed around me.

I must be blind, but I don't see any greed around me; passionate I am nevertheless, and it's never protected me from anything. xLux

Interesting then. I need to understand your world better, as it may teach me lots about the way I see mine

On the other hand, maybe I can't see greed BECAUSE of my passion. Not being able to see does imply that you cannot raise barriers to protect yourself; and yet, I'd rather incinerate than plod along, untouched and unmoved.

I utterly disagree. Surely the most legitimate passion at the core of human nature is lust interwoven with love.
Unless, of course, the object of one's desire belongs to somebody else. Then again, it is the person's will that matters, not their marital status; if one is willing to be seduced, there is no theft: they just don't belong to their partner. Some of us never have. xLux
